Teaching Channel’s mission is to help educators learn from each other.
The authors of this site believe that videos are one of the prime materials to be used in education and have compiled an extensive collection of them for your use. My view is that the best teaching occurs when ALL available materials are utilized depending on the material, student and teacher strengths, and the context of the learning environment. But great videos are a nice resource to have.

It’s sad that teachers are some of the lowest paid professional workers in the United States. I remember when I switched from engineering to teaching and, in my first week, I realized that in order to make a phone call, I had to wait in line in the main office. Along with the low pay and due to our society’s social hierarchy based on wealth, teachers don’t get a lot of respect. This video is probably a reaction to this.
We need to raise the status of and increase the funding of education in the United States. This is especially true for the poorest of the kids in our country.

For some reason, many people believe that a teachers job is easy and have no idea about the scope of activities that are included in the job. In an effort to enlighten those folks, a map of teacher responsibilities is shown below.
The obvious teacher activities are shown in yellow, which are time consuming and take up most of a teacher’s day. But the rest of the “iceberg” activities, shown in white, are what make the job a real challenge.
